Privacy policy
The Teacher File (theteacherfile.com) publishes teacher salary information from official school district documents. We collect as little about you as we can. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- You can read every page without an account and without giving us any personal information.
- We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful. It uses cookies; you can block them.
- If you sign up for email alerts, we keep your email address and the district you chose, and nothing else.
- We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.

Information collected automatically
Analytics (Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager)
When you visit, Google Analytics records information such as the pages you view, how you arrived (for example, a search engine or a link), approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and interactions like scrolling, clicks on outbound links, file downloads and email signups. It uses first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell visits apart. We use this only in aggregate, to see which pages and districts people find useful and to improve the site.
Google processes this data under its own terms; seehow Google uses information from sites that use its services. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months. We have not enabled Google advertising features or shared analytics data with Google's ad products.
Security and delivery (Cloudflare)
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks and speeds it up. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to do that and may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as__cf_bm) to tell people from bots. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Server logs
Our web server keeps standard access logs (time, page requested, IP address, browser type) to keep the site running and secure. These logs are deleted automatically after 14 days.
Information you give us
Email alerts
If you sign up to be notified when a district's salary schedule changes, we store your email address, the district you selected, when you signed up, and whether you confirmed your subscription. We use this only to send the alerts and updates you asked for. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all emails. We will send these emails through an email delivery service that processes your address only to deliver our messages.
Messages and corrections
If you email us (for example, to report an error in a salary schedule), we keep your message and email address to reply and fix the data.
How we share information
We don't sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with the service providers named above, who process it on our behalf to run the site, or when the law requires it.
Your choices
- Block analytics: use your browser's cookie or tracking-protection settings, a content blocker, or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. The site works the same without analytics.
- Stop emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- See, correct or delete your data: email [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional rights under state law, and we honor these requests for everyone.
Children
The site is written for teachers and other adults. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it (for example, adding advertising), we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
